Granny's Chocolate Cream Pie

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa, heaping
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pie shell, baked
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 8 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 combine sugar, flour and cocoa in saucepan.
  • 2 stir in milk and cook over medium heat until thick.
  • 3 remove from heat and temper in egg yolks.
  • 4 return to heat and simmer 2 more minutes.
  • 5 remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  • 6 pour into baked pie shell.
  • 7 top with meringue.
  • 8 bake 400 degree oven for 10 minutes until lightly brown.
  • 9 chill.
  • 10 merinque:.
  • 11 beat egg whites and cream tartar until frothy.
  • 12 beat in sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  • 13 spoon on top of custard.
