German Oat Cake

Total Time: 37 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 27 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 4 ounces german sweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/4 cup light cream or 1/4 cup condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Recipe

  • 1 combine water, butter, oats, and chocolate; let sit 20 minutes.
  • 2 sift together flour, soda, and salt.
  • 3 add brown sugar, eggs, and oatmeal mixture to dry ingredients.
  • 4 bake in a 9x13 inch pan for 25-35 minutes.
  • 5 frost while hot with topping.
  • 6 topping:.
  • 7 boil butter, cream, and brown sugar for 2-3 minutes; pour over warm cake.
  • 8 sprinkle with chopped nuts.
