Grasshopper Squares

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup margarine or 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
  • 6 drops green food coloring

Recipe

  • 1 heat oven to 325º.
  • 2 grease 13x9 inch pan.
  • 3 in large bowl, beat ¾ cup powdered sugar and ¾ cup margarine until light and fluffy.
  • 4 stir in melted cooled chocolate.
  • 5 lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.
  • 6 add flour, baking powder, salt, 1 tablespoon milk and ¼ teaspoon mint extract to margarine mixture; mix well.
  • 7 dough will be stiff.
  • 8 press dough into greased pan.
  • 9 bake at 325º for 15-25 minutes or until center is set.
  • 10 cool completely.
  • 11 in large bowl, blend all topping ingredients; beat til smooth.
  • 12 spread over base.
  • 13 cut into squares.
  • 14 store in fridge.
