Frosted Mahogany Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 5 teaspoons hot water
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 3/4 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 (1 lb) box powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 5 teaspoons hot water
  • 1 egg yolk

Recipe

  • 1 for cake:.
  • 2 cream butter and sugar.
  • 3 add four egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • 4 combine cocoa and hot water and blend into the egg and sugar mixture.
  • 5 sift together baking powder and flour.
  • 6 add flour alternatively to the egg mixture with the milk.
  • 7 add vanilla.

  • 9 bake in three greased and floured cake pans for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
