Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups cake flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 375°f butter two 8" cake pans, and dust with cocoa powder.
- 2 sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. mix in shortening with electric mixer at low speed. add 2/3 c milk. when incorporated, turn up speed to medium and add remaining 1/3 c milk. add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. add vanilla and melted chocolate and fold in until fully mixed.
- 3 divide batter between the two pans. bake in preheated oven 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into one cake comes out clean.
- 4 cool 10 minutes in pans, then turn out onto cooling racks until fully cooled. fill and frost with your favorite frosting.
